EnviTec Biogas has marked the initial feed-in from a 417 Nm³/h EnviThan gas upgrading plant, completing its second biomethane project in Slovakia.
The plant, located in the municipality of Ožďany, is operated by CITA VIA s.r.o. and currently upgrades 750 Nm³/h of biogas to biomethane. The company intends to increase production to a maximum of 1,300 Nm³/h of biogas in the long term.
The existing biogas plant has been in operation for 14 years, running on maize, cattle straw dung and chicken dung. The new gas upgrading unit complements continued electricity generation with the production of advanced biomethane from cattle straw and chicken manure, with plans to transition to waste materials only.
'Efficiency and flexibility were the decisive reasons for commissioning EnviTec Biogas as the contractual partner,' said Stefan Laumann, head of gas upgrading at EnviTec Biogas. The membrane-based EnviThan plant, produced at the company's Saerbeck site, underwent a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) prior to delivery, ensuring rapid on-site commissioning. Ongoing service support is provided by EnviTec's Czech subsidiary in Velké Meziříčí.
Slovakia is targeting significant investment in renewable energy expansion, with €103 million in EU Recovery Fund support available for new renewable energy plants.
According to analysis by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, 34 biogas plants in Slovakia have the potential to produce biomethane. Neighbouring Czech Republic, where EnviTec operates a regional branch, also regards biomethane as an alternative to natural gas as part of its decarbonisation strategy.
