St1 Biokraft completes Danish Bio Commodities acquisition
The transaction includes five production assets (four wholly owned, 25% stake in a fifth) and a greenfield development pipeline of six biomethane projects. DBC brings established market capabilities, local team expertise in biomass sourcing, biogas production, trading and technical services, and established customer and partner relationships in the Danish market.
Miika Johansson, CEO of St1 Biokraft, stated that the acquisition provides a strong platform for Nordic expansion from day one. He welcomed the DBC team's market knowledge and noted that integration would prioritise continuity for customers, partners and employees.
The acquisition aligns with St1 Biokraft's 2030 targets of reaching 3 TWh in own production and 6 TWh in sales and distribution across the Nordic region. The transaction was announced on June 30, 2026, with regulatory approvals completed by August 25.
Denmark operates one of Europe's most developed biomethane markets, supported by policy frameworks favouring renewable gas development and grid injection. DBC's production and pipeline assets position St1 Biokraft to participate in this mature market whilst leveraging existing infrastructure and customer relationships for rapid scaling.
St1 Biokraft is a joint venture between St1 (Finnish energy company) and Valio (Finnish dairy cooperative), both of which hold significant stakes. The company previously announced the Nurmo industrial-scale liquefied biogas facility in Finland and operates integrated Nordic biogas and biomethane infrastructure across multiple countries.
The Danish market entry represents a geographical expansion of St1 Biokraft's Nordic platform strategy, with DBC's production capacity and development pipeline providing immediate and medium-term growth vectors toward the 3 TWh and 6 TWh targets.
