Seras has completed a £3.25 million investment in its Tilbury waste wood processing facility, with upgrades carried out during a planned shutdown in late 2025 now delivering improved operational efficiency across the site.

Work included the installation of new shredding equipment and a new screw conveyor, alongside refurbishment of other parts of the processing line.

The improvements have resulted in better material quality through the process, producing higher-grade biomass fuel with increased reliability, reduced downtime and greater output for power plant customers across the UK.

Aaron Whitrow, head of operations, said: 'Projects of this size and scale require meticulous planning to get them completed in a short shutdown window. It's great to see what our team can achieve when under pressure and we're all delighted with this refurbishment. It flowed smoothly and was a great success for all involved.'

Since opening, the Tilbury plant has processed over 1.6 million tonnes of grade C waste wood, also recovering ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics and light material. The site keeps more than 1.2 million tonnes of waste wood out of landfill annually, with shredded material supplied to power plants as biomass fuel.

The project was delivered in partnership with suppliers HAAS Recycling-Systems, CRJ and Potters Forge. With the refurbishment complete, the team is now planning further improvements to the Tilbury office space and preparing for the next scheduled site shutdown later in 2026.
