Katie Hagmann, Member of Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, has visited Land Energy's 14-acre production site outside Girvan for a tour of the company's manufacturing facilities and wood storage areas.
Hagmann met John Lancaster, head of sales and logistics; Nicola Taylor, head of products; Fiona Lancaster, head of bulk sales; and Steven Baillie, Girvan operations site lead, who led the tour.
It followed a presentation from senior staff covering the company's history, products and personnel, along with the economic challenges facing the biomass industry and the wider South Ayrshire region.
'Land Energy is a business with sustainability at its heart. It has been incredible to hear about the opportunities the company is taking, but also its work in supporting the local community,' said Hagmann. 'Having really good employment opportunities is key to building the local economy, and Land Energy is doing just that.'
David Bone, communications officer at Land Energy, said: 'It was a privilege to have Katie visit the site and to have the opportunity to present our factory, staff and entire production process from the moment the sustainably sourced raw materials arrive at the factory to the moment they leave as one of our premium products.'
Founded in 2006, Land Energy is the UK's largest producer of wood pellets and briquettes. The company also manufactures cat litter and horse bedding, and a fungal-based soil conditioner, Solivita.
