JAPEX announces plans for biomass power plant

Japan Petroleum Exploration (JAPEX) is working with Maeda Corporation, Yonden Business Co, and Shinko Denso to develop a biomass power project in Japan’s Ehime Prefecture.

JAPEX specialises in hydrocarbon exploration, production, and transportation. The company produces crude oil, natural gas, and LNG reserves globally.

The biomass power plant in Ozu City will have an output of approximately 50,000 kW (50 MW) and will use imported wood pellets, approximately 200,000 tons per year, as fuel. Construction is expected to start in June and the commercial operations are currently scheduled for August 2024.

The plant will produce approximately 350 GWh of electricity annually, all of which will be sold to Shikoku Electric Power Transmission & Distribution Company, using feed-in-tariffs.
