EnviTec begins construction of biogas facility in Denmark

EnviTec Biogas has begun the construction of an EnviThan gas upgrading plant for WEFRI, a Danish agricultural company.

The plant, with a capacity of 524m³, will be built in the Jutland town of Hammel and is scheduled to go online by summer 2016.

As feedstock the plant will process grass silage, sugar beets, straw, chicken manure, and glycerine, and the produced gas will be fed into HMN Naturgas’ local gas network.

The government of Denmark has set a target of using half of the country’s manure for biogas generation by 2020 and it wants to be completely independent of fossil energy sources by 2050.

Although Denmark’s biogas production capacity of approximately 32 million m3 at the beginning of 2015 is relatively low, it is expected to more than double to 76 million m3 by the end of 2015.
