China Everbright International secures Jiangsu Siyang waste-to-energy project

Hong Kong-based China Everbright International has announced that the group has signed a concession agreement for a household waste-to-energy project with the People's Government of Siyang County in Jiangsu Province, and will invest and construct the Siyang waste-to-energy project.

Siyang Project will be invested and constructed on a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model with a concession period of 30 years.

It has a designed daily household waste processing capacity of 900 tonnes. The project will be constructed in two phases. Phase One of the project has a designed daily household waste processing capacity of 600 tonnes, with a total investment of approximately RMB350 million.

Its gas emissions will fully comply with the Euro 2010 Standard, and it is expected to generate approximately 75,000,000kWh of green electricity annually.

Siyang County is located in the north of Jiangsu Province and is under the administration of Suqian City.

Household waste treatment services in the county mainly rely on landfill at present, and with the county’s economic development and growth in local living standards, the amount of waste has increased accordingly.

With the introduction of waste-to-energy treatment, which provides harmless treatment, reuse and reduction of household waste, to replace landfill which is an unsustainable method, the project will effectively resolve the demand for extensive land resources and environmental pollution problems caused by landfill sites.

Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International, said: "Everbright International has three waste-to-energy projects in operation currently in the north of Jiangsu Province, which collectively have an annual household waste processing capacity of approximately 700,000 tonnes and generate around 200 millionkWh of green electricity each year.

“The group will, as always, build and operate the Siyang project to the highest standards, incorporate the most advanced technologies into the project, and ensure the project’s management abides by the most rigorous standards.

“By turning waste into energy, Everbright International will contribute towards the protection of Siyang’s environment and the development of its ecological economy, creating another example of how mankind and the ecological environment can harmoniously co-exist."
