Swiss green-tech company Kanadevia Inova has completed construction and commissioning of the Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) near Kelvedon in Essex, handing the plant over to operator Indaver.
The provisional acceptance certificate was issued on 18 April 2026, marking the conclusion of construction works that began in October 2022. Kanadevia Inova will continue to support Indaver under a long-term service agreement signed in June 2025.
Located in a former quarry, the two-line facility will process up to 595,000 tonnes of residual municipal and commercial waste annually, generating 55MW of electricity — enough to power more than 125,700 homes. It is the first waste-to-energy plant to be built and operated in Essex.
Daniel Dreier, executive vice president for Waste to X and Renewable Gas Plants at Kanadevia Inova, said the facility would advance the UK's environmentally sustainable waste management while generating significant volumes of baseload energy.
Kristien Schoonjans, group engineering director at Indaver, said the handover reflected effective collaboration between both organisations, with the fully commissioned plant now ready for Indaver's operations team.
The Rivenhall IWMF will divert non-recyclable waste from landfill and reduce the carbon footprint associated with transporting residual waste out of county for treatment or overseas export.
