JG Pears acquires P Waddington in move to support biomass CHP plant

JG Pears, a UK processor of animal by-products and food waste collection service, has acquired P Waddington, a Bradford-based rendering group.

P Waddington provides Cat1 rendering and collection services to the UK food and farming industry, safely processing raw material to produce finished products for use in the renewable energy sector.

The acquisition includes P Waddington’s main processing facility in Bradford as well as two collection centres, operated under the FM Caine brand.

The move supports the recent development of a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant at JG Pears’ Low Marnham site, by internalising a large proportion of the fuel needed by the plant, which has helped to make JG Pears a sustainable operator in the UK rendering industry.

“There are many linkages between JG Pears and P Waddington, and the larger group will be well-placed to service the needs of the animal by-product sector going forward,” said Jeff Pears, CEO of JG Pears Group.

“Every interaction we jointly had through this process has reinforced our common vision of our employees providing an excellent service to our customers while minimising the impact on our neighbours and the environment.”

Mark Waddington of P Waddington commented: “For the Waddington family, while this deal is tinged with sadness – we say thank you and goodbye to the people we have worked with for many, many years – we leave in the knowledge that the Waddington operations will thrive within JG Pears.”
