Erex will construct a 50MW biomass power plant in Japan's Kampong Speu province, with construction set to begin in June this year.
The project aims to bolster the region’s energy supply and provide more affordable electricity for Kampong Speu and neighbouring areas.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Tuy Ri, the Cambodian Ambassador to Japan, and IMAMURA Masahiro, the former President of the Cambodia-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Alliance and Advisor to the Prime Minister.
The meeting focused on advancing bilateral cooperation in energy development.
Hitoshi Honna, owner of Erex, along with Tomoki Kakuta, the company’s manager, also revealed plans for a 40MW solar power plant in Pursat province, which is slated to become operational in 2026 following the Royal Government of Cambodia’s approval in 2024.
“The 50MW biomass power plant will take approximately two years to complete, with the expectation of becoming operational by 2027,” Honna said.
“We aim to provide affordable energy solutions while exploring opportunities to expand biomass power plants in other provinces, utilising agricultural waste such as rice husks, straw, and bark.”
