Enviva expands to meet increasing demand

On 13 October 2010 biomass fuel producer Enviva acquired a controlling interest in alternative fuel company Tomorrow’s Energy and its Piney Wood pellet manufacturing facility.

Today the facility produces approximately 50,000 tonnes of wood pellets a year but under Enviva’s ownership this is expected to increase to around 150,000 tonnes a year. Piney Woods Pellets will also be renamed Enviva Pellets Wiggins.

According to Enviva 22 new jobs will be created at the facility itself, with a further 30 staff expected to be hired throughout its logging and forestry supply chain.

Commenting on the acquisition Enviva’s chairman and CEO John Keppler said: ‘With this investment we are very excited to expand Enviva’s manufacturing footprint in Mississippi and increase our production of sustainably generated wood pellets to help our customers reduce their carbon footprint.'
