Colorado set to benefit from biomass loan guarantee

The US Department of Agriculture will supply a multi-million loan guarantee for a new biomass generating plant in Summit County, Ohio.

An area of abundant beetle-killed trees has been considered as feedstock by various agencies and officials, but now the $40 million loan guarantee could see those discussions move to an actuality.

It is believed any such project could eventually produce around 11.5MW which could power nearly 10,000 homes.

‘This loan guarantee is proof of Colorado’s leadership in innovative renewable energy technologies, as we work to modernise and improve how rural communities in our state receive their electricity,’ said US senator Michael Bennet. ‘These efforts to diversify and clean our energy portfolio are a positive step forward.’
