Biomass specialist ramps up entry into Cumbrian market

UK-based renewable heat specialist Scot Heat & Power has announced that it is ramping up its entry into the Cumbrian market.

According to the firm, it is one of just three UK companies to offer ElectraTherm’s innovative Power+ Generator, which is a US-produced generator that utilises biomass for efficient clean energy production.

Scot Heat & Power, has been established since 2010 and has significantly invested in a new base at located in Windermere, Cumbria.

After seeing increased enquiries for services and maintenance in Cumbria, Scot Heat & Power’s Windermere operation will respond to that significant demand by offering large commercial as well as smaller biomass boilers.

According to Scot Heat & Power, it believes that its new cost-effective ElectraTherm offering will attract strong interest from the thousands of visitors that are expected to attend the Westmorland Show, taking place on 8 September at Lane Farm in Kendal.

Organised by Westmorland County Agricultural Association, the event is one of Britain’s oldest agricultural shows - and Scot Heat & Power is proud to be taking part once again on stand J338, while also sponsoring the Countryside Arena this year.

US-based ElectraTherm - a waste heat to power generation specialist - already has two installations in the UK, but the deal with Scot Heat & Power marks its first Cumbrian presence. In recent months alone, ElectraTherm has announced new installations in Germany, Italy, Romania and Japan.

Licensed only to Scot Heat & Power in Cumbria, the Power+ Generator is a flexible electricity generator that can be used with standard biomass hot water boilers, utilising low temperature and low pressure Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and its proprietary technologies for major efficiencies.

The Power+ can also produce fuel-free, emission-free electricity from low-grade waste heat, and is capable of reaching outputs of up to 110kWe power generation, according to the company.

The technology is capable of benefitting waste heat or process heat users, representing a strong competitive advantage for commercial sites.

Scot Heat & Power’s Managing Director, Malcolm Snowie said: “We are pleased to be exhibiting once again at the Westmorland Show, and particularly to be revealing our formal entry into the Cumbrian market for the first time.

“The Westmorland Show has grown significantly with a great buzz around the site, and we believe that our own offering has grown in tandem over the years, leading naturally to this move.

“Our new presence in Windermere underlines our huge commitment to the area and to employing the best in local talent as we commence our search for new staff in earnest.

“We are also proud to be partnering with ElectraTherm – a clear leader in small-scale ORC technology – bringing its proven and trusted power generation capabilities to Cumbria for the first time.

“The Power+ fleet of over 50 global installations has already exceeded 520,000 hours of run time, and we are certain that its success can be replicated here for better efficiency and cost savings for commercial users through low maintenance, emission-free electricity.

“We are looking forward to making a strong contribution to the Westmorland show, emphasising our significantly expanded offering to the vibrant agri-business sector, with the aim of driving further value and efficiency in the marketplace.”
