Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) will set up a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Brahmapuram in a year, reported The Hindu.
Industries Minister P. Rajeeve and Local Self-Government Minister M.B. Rajesh held primary discussions with company officials in Thiruvananthapuram on 3 May.
The State government will allocate land for the project at Brahmapuram, and the company will develop and operate the plant.
Kochi Corporation will ensure a supply of waste to the plant via pipelines, from which the gas will be produced. Rajeeve said it would be logistically simple for the company to set up pipeline connectivity to the facility.
The company will produce a detailed proposal for setting up the plant. The proposal will be considered by the Local Self-Government department, and placed before the State Cabinet for approval, Rajeeve said.
A tripartite agreement will need to be signed between the State government, BPCL and the Kochi Corporation.
