Hexagon Agility has signed an exclusive, long-term agreement with IVECO BUS to supply fuel systems across IVECO's global CNG bus range, building on two decades of collaboration between the companies that has already delivered more than 10,000 CNG buses worldwide.
The three-year agreement covers all IVECO BUS CNG and biomethane transit vehicles globally. Under the deal, Hexagon Agility — which describes itself as the world's leading provider of compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems — will supply complete fuel systems incorporating its carbon fibre (Type 4) cylinders. IVECO BUS is Europe's leading manufacturer of natural gas buses, serving customers across Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.
Eric Bippus, chief commercial officer at Hexagon Agility, said the companies' collaboration has already helped transit operators deploy more than 10,000 buses that are cutting emissions and fleet costs globally. He added that transit agencies face growing pressure to reduce emissions, manage costs, strengthen fuel supply resilience and maintain reliable service, and that this is driving many agencies toward fleet portfolios combining battery-electric and natural gas-powered buses matched to the needs of specific routes and regions.
Buses remain central to public transport worldwide, accounting for around 48% of public transport journeys according to the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). Natural gas and its renewable drop-in equivalent, biomethane, are positioned as scalable options offering immediate emissions reductions and lower operating costs. Biomethane can also be produced locally from organic waste, which the companies say helps municipalities and operators strengthen energy resilience, cut reliance on imported fuel, support circular economy goals and, in some cases, achieve carbon-negative lifecycle emissions.
In Europe, CNG and biomethane buses accounted for 7% of city bus registrations in 2025, rising above 20% in France, Greece and Italy, according to T&E figures. Adoption is also expanding in emerging markets including Latin America, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.
