Fitec biogas plant to use avocado oil processing waste

Fitec Environmental Technologies (Fitec), a Canadian biogas design and engineering company, has signed a contract to build a biogas facility for an avocado oil processing facility – the first of its kind in the world.

Fitec will build the plant for Villa Avocado in the Michoacan province of Mexico. The facility will provide a sustainable disposal solution for the 120 tonnes of waste biomass produced by the company per day. It will produce 650 m3 per hour of biogas, which will offset heating and electricity costs for Villa Avocado’s operation.

Fitec has been in operation since 2018 and has five facilities in Canada. This project will mark the start of its expansion into Mexico and will be the first biogas plant globally to be powered by avocado oil processing waste.

Plans are in place to double renewable energy production at Villa Avocado is planned for 2024.
