BioticNRG acquires Lemvig Biogas
Lemvig Biogas, Denmark's largest thermophilic biogas facility, has operated since 1992, processing manure from local farms alongside organic waste and residual industrial products to generate renewable energy for the local community. The plant supplies electricity to the local grid and surplus heat to district heating customers in the Lemvig area, and is recognised as one of Denmark's leading biogas facilities.
The acquisition follows an expanded capital commitment from APG Asset Management, acting on behalf of Dutch pension fund ABP, which will support BioticNRG's continued growth across the UK and Europe. The initial commitment had already backed the successful acquisition of 10 anaerobic digestion sites, six green waste composting facilities and adjacent infrastructure since 2024. Palisade and APG have now expanded the BioticNRG mandate to include European bioenergy assets, establishing a dedicated investment strategy targeting opportunities across key European markets.
Including Lemvig, BioticNRG now owns and operates 10 anaerobic digestion sites, generating 20.7MW of electrical output and more than 3,500m³/hour of bio-CNG into the national grid, alongside six green waste composting facilities.
Stephen Burns, CEO of Palisade Real Assets, said the transaction combined the company's operational expertise and long-term institutional capital with Lemvig Biogas's strong track record, calling it a significant step in the continued growth of the BioticNRG fund.
Niels Bjerre, Chairman of Lemvig Biogas, said the company was pleased to have found a buyer with solid experience operating biogas plants and a long-term perspective, adding that it had been important to secure a solution allowing the plant to continue operating with consideration for the local community, including plans to accept more livestock manure from the municipality.
Iulia Grosu, APG's Senior Portfolio Manager Infrastructure, said investment in biogas and biomethane continued to offer promising routes to mitigating climate change, reducing waste and strengthening European energy independence, adding that BioticNRG's UK build-out and subsequent expansion into Europe were fully aligned with APG's long-term sustainability vision.
Stefania Trivellato, Managing Director of BioticNRG, described the acquisition as marking an important milestone in building the platform's European presence, and said the company looked forward to working closely with local stakeholders while continuing to grow a platform delivering both strong environmental outcomes and long-term value.
