Nordic energy company Gasum has opened its 13th liquefied biogas filling station in Norway, a strategic expansion in the Port of Trondheim that reflects rising demand for renewable fuels in heavy transport and signals accelerating infrastructure investment ahead of Norway's 2030 climate commitments.
The new station, strategically positioned near the E6 highway in one of Trondheim's key logistics hubs, represents Gasum's broader play to build a critical refueling network along Norway's main transport corridors.
The opening comes less than five years after Gasum established its first Trondheim station at Tiller in 2021—a timeline that underscores the rapid scaling of biogas adoption in Nordic transport.
Availability of refueling infrastructure has emerged as a crucial constraint on wider biogas adoption. By expanding station capacity and geographic coverage, Gasum is attempting to remove a key barrier: the "chicken-and-egg" problem where carriers hesitate to purchase biogas vehicles without confidence in fuel supply, while infrastructure developers hesitate to invest without guaranteed demand.
Gasum's expanding network reflects a market transition. The company noted that demand for renewable fuels has accelerated materially since opening its first Trondheim station five years ago.
The new facility serves both local and national carriers and offers both compressed and liquefied biogas, accommodating different vehicle configurations across the transport sector.
The Trondheim location is particularly strategic. The port area functions as a growing logistics hub with direct access to the E6, Norway's main north-south transport corridor.
This positioning makes the station a critical resupply point for heavy transport moving northward from the Oslo region toward Sweden and beyond—a key route for cross-Nordic freight.
