Energy infrastructure business YLEM Group has launched YLEM Power, a new specialist operations and maintenance company to support gas generation assets across the UK, including combined heat and power, biogas, landfill gas and anaerobic digestion facilities that convert organic waste into renewable energy.
YLEM Power will provide 24/7 O&M support to energy asset owners and investors, backed by an independent expert consultancy, a team of more than 35 field-based engineers, and £1 million of strategic spare parts and equipment.
The company will also support peaking power plants, which generate electricity rapidly to cover gaps left by other energy sources during spikes in national grid demand.
Unlike many traditional O&M providers, YLEM Power's remit extends beyond the gas engine itself to cover the entire generator set and wider generating plant, including alternators, controls, HV and LV systems and other balance-of-plant equipment.
The company says this broader scope reduces asset owners' reliance on multiple contractors and allows more issues to be resolved through a single engineering team.
Because YLEM Group already owns and operates several gas generation assets across the UK, including biogas and anaerobic digestion sites, YLEM Power says it can combine engineering expertise with a practical understanding of the commercial impact of availability, downtime, maintenance decisions and lifecycle costs.
The company says this combination of operational data and commercial insight is intended to help asset owners better understand performance, protect uptime and maximise long-term asset value — a consideration particularly relevant for AD and landfill gas operators managing variable feedstock and output alongside maintenance scheduling.
The new business sits alongside YLEM Group's existing portfolio, which includes battery energy storage developer Root-Power, commercial solar energy specialist Power Zero, and YLEM Energy, which continues to focus on energy generation.
Ian Gadsby, Chief Executive Officer of YLEM Group, said the launch completes more than 12 months of restructuring across the group. "Launching YLEM Power completes over 12 months of restructuring across the group. We feel it both provides greater clarity around our service offering to customers and maximises significant business growth opportunities within the O&M sector. Our experience in this space and team of specialist engineers across the UK, means we're already equipped with the people, parts and expertise to serve the market and scale the business at pace. We also think like asset owners because we own and operate gas generation assets, meaning we understand the commercial consequences of every single decision."
With the UK government's Clean Power 2030 action plan expecting around 35GW of unabated gas reserve capacity to be maintained by 2030, YLEM Power says it will help ensure gas-fuelled power plants, including those running on biogas and landfill gas, remain ready to perform when called upon and provide strategic back-up to the national grid.
Gadsby added: "With peaking power plants so critical to energy infrastructure, the government's Clean Power 2030 ambitions and the future stability of the national grid, we're looking forward to being at the forefront of helping energy asset owners drive long term commercial success."
