Valmet has been selected by Strategic Biofuels to supply biomass power generation and flue gas cleaning technology for the Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) project in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana in the US, a facility designed to combine carbon-negative power generation with permanent carbon capture and sequestration.
The project pairs power generated from renewable forestry residuals with carbon capture and geologic storage, aiming to produce electricity with a deeply carbon-negative footprint.
Under its scope of work, Valmet will supply a boiler island built around a circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler, along with advanced flue gas cleaning systems designed to support fuel flexibility, operational reliability and environmental performance.
At full buildout, the LGF project is designed for more than 300 megawatts of gross generating capacity. It is expected to consume more than 3.5 million tonnes of sustainably sourced forestry residuals annually, equivalent to around 400 truckloads of biomass a day.
Carbon dioxide captured through the project's post-combustion capture system will be permanently stored in a fully permitted geologic reservoir.
