Clean energy project developer Punjab Biomass Power says it hopes to establish a number of rice straw-fired biomass plants with a total capacity of 96MW by 2017, Bloomberg reports.

Covanta Energy's expansion of the H-Power renewable power plant in Honolulu in Hawaii has finished.
The $302 million (€232 million) project has increased the plant's handling capacity by 900 tonnes to 3,000 tonnes per day of municipal solid waste (MSW). A third boiler has also been installed.

Technology supplier Metso is to provide a Swedish combined heat and power plant with a biofuel-fired boiler.

Some biomass-related projects in the US are set to benefit from a new multi-million investment by the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Programme (REAP).
REAP hopes to aid ranchers, farmers and small rural businesses fund renewable energy systems and energy-efficiency improvements. The new investment is $16 million (€12.3 million) and is earmarked for 244 projects.

A wood recycling business in Nottinghamshire, UK has submitted planning application for a biomass energy facility.

A new biogas-fired CHP plant has opened in Konopnica, Poland.

Thailand-based oil refiner Bangchak Petroleum’s president Anusorn Sangnimnuan says it is set to invest heavily into two biodiesel projects.
Sangimnuan revealed that Bangchak will invest THB1.2 billion (€30.2 million) and double its capacity of pure biodiesel, or methyl ester, to 600,000 litres per day at its Ayutthaya plant.
