SMC builds more power plants
In Surat, India, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is looking to build three biogas-fired power plants, which will generate 20,000 units of electricity a day.
Two out of the three new power plants, located in Dindoli and Variyav-Kosad, have been developed already and will come online within the next six months. The third will begin operations within a year.
SMC owns a further four biogas power plants in Anjana, Karanj, Singanpore and Bhatar, which collectively generate 3.5MW of renewable energy.
'After the success of these four power plants we decided to set up three more plants at developing sewerage treatment plants of Bhesan, Dindoli and Variyav-Kosad,' says an official from the civic body.
