For over 40 years, BMW has built diesel and petrol engines at BMW Group Plant Steyr. It recently announced that it is switching to renewable heat sources. Tanja Hornbachner, energy manager of BMW Group Plant Steyr, said that BMW Group Plant Steyr was first connected to the local district heating network in 2012. “The decision was taken in order to reduce CO2-emissions in the long-run. This strategic vision paid off – because since September of this year, the Steyr plant has now become the first BMW Group plant that can operate production entirely with energy from renewable sources as a rule,” she said.
