TimberWest plans pellet plant in Canada

Canada-based forestry company TimberWest Forest is planning a $60 million (€44 million) wood pellet production plant in Vancouver Island Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Ground could break on the plant as early as Q4 this year, with operations due to commence within a year. When production begins, the facility will manufacture 200,000 tonnes of wood pellets annually, produced from leftover fibre material sourced from the forestry and manufacturing sectors, including TimberWest Forest's own operations.

'It's a pretty complex project and we're in the process of doing our due diligence,' the company's CEO Brian Frank was reported to have said. 'We've commenced our engineering and design, but we have not gone to a final investment decision yet.'

If the project goes ahead, it will be the first of its kind to be located in coastal British Columbia.
