New AD plant opens in Oxford

In Cassington, Oxford, a £9 million (€10.6 million) anaerobic digestion (AD) plant has opened.

Developed as a joint venture with M&M Skip Hire as part of Agrivert’s 20-year contract with Oxfordshire county council, the facility has the capacity to generate 2MW of electricity from 45,000 tonnes of waste a year. The renewable power produced will be supplied to the National Grid.

Councillor Ian Hadspeth, cabinet member for growth and infrastructure at Oxfordshire county council, said: ‘This is a fantastic facility that is performing a key role in reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill in Oxfordshire, providing sustainable and renewable electricity for over 4,000 homes.'
