Mexican biomass plant to cut CO2 by 570,000 tonnes
In Mexico, Orbeo is planning to construct a biomass plant in Tres Valles, Veracruz.
The new cogeneration plant will generate 40MW of electricity and heat from bagasse.
Between 2012 and 2021, the project is expected to cut CO2 emissions by around 572,500 tonnes, according to Orbeo, a partnership between Societe Generale and Rhodia.
The biomass needed for the plant will be supplied by sugar group Grupo Piasa, which will also provide the cogeneration plant.
Some of the electricity produced at the plant will be consumed on site, while the remaining power will be sold.
