HAM Group completes biomethane rollout across European refuelling network

Spain-based HAM Group has made bio-liquefied natural gas (bioLNG) and bio-compressed natural gas (bioCNG) available across its entire service station network, completing a rollout first announced in late 2025.

The company says customers can refuel with biomethane without modifications to vehicles or existing infrastructure, offering what it describes as an immediate decarbonisation route for professional transport fleets running current gas-powered vehicles.

HAM operates more than 140 stations across Spain and wider Europe, with additional regional operations including HAM Italia, which has built a network of over 40 stations.

The group has also been expanding beyond Europe, holding a 40% stake in Limagas Movilidad in Peru and developing plans for LNG, CNG and bioLNG infrastructure in South America, including a bioLNG plant in Chile.

The company entered the Italian market in 2024 with its first EDUX LNG-CNG refuelling station in La Spezia, focused on mobile and transportable infrastructure solutions.

HAM says biomethane, derived from organic waste streams, supports a circular economy model and aligns with broader efforts to decarbonise heavy-duty and long-distance road transport, where low-carbon alternatives remain limited.

Interest in biomethane as a transport fuel is growing among end-users. UK retailer Marks & Spencer recently announced a mobile refuelling agreement with ReFuels NV to expand its bioCNG heavy goods vehicle fleet, which currently numbers more than 210 trucks and is expected to surpass 300 vehicles by March 2027.
