Norske Skog's 10 percent-owned Green Valley Energie joint venture is ready to start the construction of a biomass boiler at the mill site of Norske Skog Golbey in France.

The biomass energy plant will produce electricity and heat from waste and residue materials.

The steam will be used by the Norwegian paper products manufacturer's Golbey mill and the electricity will be sold through a feed-in tariff contract.

The plant will be commissioned in September 2024. It will produce more than 200 gigawatt-hours of electricity and more than 700 gigawatt-hours of renewable heat.

Shares in the company were up almost 1 percent this week, following the announcement.
