Biomass producer Conifex to halt Mackenzie sawmill for seven weeks
Canadian timber company Conifex Timber is to temporarily curtail sawmill operations at its Mackenzie, British Columbia facility for approximately seven weeks from 19 May, with a restart targeted for July 2026.

The company said the pause is driven by log inventory levels and fibre availability, compounded by seasonal logging breakup conditions affecting supply across the BC Interior. Logging operations are expected to resume in early June, subject to weather.

The curtailment represents around 25 million board feet in supply impact.

Conifex operates a 36MW biomass power plant at Mackenzie alongside its sawmill, using wood residues from lumber production to generate renewable energy for internal and external electricity demand.

The company produces lumber sold into US, Canadian and Japanese markets, and also carries out timber harvesting, reforestation, forest management and value-added lumber finishing and distribution.

Conifex will release first quarter 2026 results before market open on 15 May, with a conference call at 9:00am Pacific time the same day. The company said it continues to advance initiatives to broaden its available financing options.

The curtailment follows a difficult fourth quarter of 2025, in which Conifex reported a net loss, citing tariff pressures and weak commodity prices.
