Industrial services group Bilfinger has signed a contract with BSOG Energy (BSOGE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG), to deliver concept and basic engineering services for a new biomethane plant in Alba County, Romania.
The facility will be BSOGE’s first project in the sector and is intended to act as a model for further large-scale biomethane developments across the country.
The agreement builds on an ongoing collaboration between the two companies. Bilfinger has been working with BSOG since 2023 under a non-exclusive framework agreement, providing technical support for the company’s energy projects. BSOG itself is best known for pioneering offshore gas extraction in Romania’s Black Sea, which began in 2022.
BSOGE, established in 2024, is focused on developing renewable energy projects to strengthen Romania’s green energy capacity and reduce reliance on conventional fuels.
The new plant in Alba County represents the company’s first step into biomethane production, with further projects planned as part of its long-term strategy.
Florin Prunaru, Operational Unit Director South Region at Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance Central Eastern Europe, said the partnership highlights the trust built between the two firms: “This collaboration builds on our strong relationship with BSOG, and we are proud to support BSOGE in moving towards large-scale biomethane opportunities.”
BSOGE Managing Director Mark Beacom added that the Alba facility is central to the company’s renewable ambitions: “This is a key milestone in our strategy to support Romania’s energy transition. By investing in biomethane, we aim to contribute to the country’s energy independence and the EU’s climate objectives.”
With its engineering expertise, Bilfinger will play a central role in designing the facility, which is expected to utilise locally available resources and provide a blueprint for future green energy projects in Romania.
