Areva delivers power plant to U-Thong Bio Power

Areva, a France-headquartered supplier of bioenergy facilities, has delivered a biomass power plant to U-Thong Bio Power in Thailand.

Built jointly by Areva and its partner Ensys, the installation is located in the Suphanburi province in Thailand. The facility is designed to generate 9.9MWe of energy using rice husk and bagasse. This is enough to benefit around 8,000 households.

Under the contract, Areva realised the plant design and provided engineering services, and the main equipment. It also supervised the testing and commissioning phases. Ensys supplied auxiliary equipment and provided construction services.

'This facility has reached full capacity and responds perfectly to our customer's requirements,' Areva Renewables CEO Louis-François Durret said in a statement.

Arava has already delivered two similar biomass plants in Thailand, and is currently building two additional units both in Thailand and the Philippines. The group has contributed to the installation of 95 biomass power plants worldwide, totalling 2.5GW of installed capacity.
