Waga Energy commissions eighth US RNG unit in Indiana
The unit processes landfill biogas into grid-quality RNG injected directly into local natural gas distribution infrastructure via a three-kilometre connection financed jointly by both parties. At full capacity, the facility will produce approximately 60 GWh of RNG annually from 1,000 scfm of raw biogas, equivalent to 203,000 MMBtu.
Waga Energy financed construction and will operate the facility for at least 20 years, whilst Decatur Hills invested in civil works and grid interconnection. The RNG output will displace approximately 15,800 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent annually compared to fossil natural gas substitution.
The WAGABOX technology uses cryogenic separation to upgrade variable-composition landfill gas to pipeline specifications without reliance on biogas consistency or composition. This addresses a key barrier in landfill RNG deployment: most landfill sites generate biogas unsuitable for conventional purification without extensive pre-treatment.
Guénaël Prince, CEO of Waga Energy Inc., noted that the partnership demonstrates the value of long-term collaboration between technology providers and landfill operators. The facility transforms biogas previously flared or vented into commercial renewable fuel supply for local communities.
Jessica Routley, CEO of parent company Best Way Disposal, stated that the partnership aligns with the family-owned waste management group's commitment to responsible landfill operations and continuous investment in environmental solutions.
The RNG can be deployed in transportation, industrial process heat, and building heating applications — markets increasingly targeted as natural gas decarbonisation accelerates across North America.
