With 15 sites currently under development and an ambition to provide 25% of the UK’s biomethane supply, Acorn Bioenergy is poised to become a major player in the UK’s transition to net zero. As the UK government sets about quadrupling the UK’s biomethane production by 2030-2035, Acorn—which was acquired by Qualitas Energy in 2022— is scaling up its UK operations. The company is developing facilities across the UK in a bid to replace the country’s reliance on fossil fuels with biogas. By capturing methane that would have otherwise been released from agricultural waste, the company is creating a closed-loop system that benefits both the environment and the rural economy, whilst bolstering the UK’s energy and food security.
