Verdalia Bioenergy has just closed a new transaction that will involve the acquisition of four more biomethane projects in Italy.
The Goldman Sachs-backed platform has acquired a portfolio of Healthy Business Advisory plants located in Piedmont and Friuli-Venezia.
This transaction is in addition to the recent acquisition of the seven plants already in operation located in the province of Brescia and strengthens Verdalia's presence in Italy, where the company is positioned as one of the leaders in the biomethane sector in the country, with an infrastructure business model.
The portfolio consists of four projects, which will benefit from the incentive programme established by the Ministerial Decree of 15 September 2022, with an approximate combined production capacity of 230 GWh of biomethane derived from a processing capacity of 262,000 tons of animal and vegetable biomass per year.
The portfolio aims to avoid approximately 53,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
One of the plants is expected to start operations in the last quarter of 2025, while the others are expected to start operations in the second quarter of 2026.
The transaction was carried out in partnership with Healthy Business Advisory, S.r.l., an experienced biomethane plant developer in the renewable energy sector in Italy, which will continue to support Verdalia in developing projects to ready-to-build status.
Matteo Grandi, country manager of Verdalia Bionergy in Italy, explained that: "Italy can play a leading role in Europe's decarbonisation agenda through biomethane. We are very pleased with this latest milestone, as it allows us to jointly develop projects and diversify our Italian platform, enhancing our know-how and contributing to the country's energy transition efforts."
