Casella Waste Systems and Waga Energy have begun operations at the Hyland landfill RNG production facility in Angelica, New York, marking the second of three planned projects for the partnership.
The facility uses Waga Energy's WAGABOX technology to upgrade landfill gas into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas. With 3,000 SCFM installed capacity, Hyland can generate up to 610,000 MMBtu (180 GWh) of renewable gas annually, positioning it among the largest RNG production units in Waga Energy's US portfolio.
Gas produced on-site is injected directly into the Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage network. The facility is expected to avoid 47,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions annually according to EPA standards.
Under the partnership agreement, Waga Energy funded full construction and will own and operate the facility for 20 years, with Casella and Waga sharing revenues from RNG sales. The project is expected to qualify for Inflation Reduction Act incentives including Investment Tax Credits and Production Tax Credits.
