The Nordic Investment Bank has committed DKK 182 million (EUR 24m) in 13-year financing to expand Sindal Biogas, an industrial-scale anaerobic digestion plant in northern Denmark.
The investment will double the facility's biomethane production from 22 to 44 million cubic metres annually. The expansion also enables potential installation of CO2 capture technology for permanent storage of biogenic emissions or supply to Power-to-X projects.
The upgraded plant will process up to 800,000 tonnes of agricultural and industrial waste annually, positioning it among Denmark's largest biogas facilities. The project is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' Advanced Bioenergy Fund I alongside KK Invest and DBC Invest.
Expansion aligns with Denmark's target of 100 per cent renewable gas in the grid and supports the country's efforts to reduce reliance on imported gas. The financing is eligible under the InvestEU Clean Energy Transition Framework.
