Joint venture Orasqualia, formed by Orascom Construction and AqualiaME, has reached an agreement with Egypt's New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) to install a biogas power generation unit at the New Cairo Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The plant has operated since 2013 as Egypt's first public-private partnership wastewater project.
The new unit will convert biogas produced during wastewater treatment into renewable electricity, with capacity expected to meet 60–70% of the facility's power needs: equivalent to around 36 megawatts per day or approximately 13,140 megawatt-hours per year.
The project is aimed at improving operational efficiency, cutting energy costs, and supporting more sustainable wastewater infrastructure across Egypt.
