Burckhardt Compression has signed an agreement to acquire Fornovo Gas, one of Europe's leading providers of gas compression solutions for biogas and compressed natural gas (CNG) applications.
Founded in Italy in 1969, Fornovo Gas specialises in mid-sized reciprocating compressors and has built a strong market position across Europe. The company employs approximately 120 people and generates double-digit MCHF sales, with profitability in line with that of Burckhardt Compression.
The acquisition strengthens Burckhardt Compression's position in the growing biogas and CNG markets. Fornovo Gas brings complementary technical expertise, a product line that broadens Burckhardt's existing range, and long-standing customer relationships.
CEO Fabrice Billard said the deal would complement the company's current offering and expand its coverage of biogas applications in Europe, while also providing a global platform to grow its mid-size configurable compressor business.
He added that combining Fornovo Gas's capabilities with Burckhardt Compression's global presence would strengthen the group's position in applications supporting energy security and the energy transition.
Completion of the acquisition is expected within two months. Further details will be shared at Burckhardt Compression's Annual Media and Analyst Conference on 4 June 2026.
