Schwager Biogas and BZero launch on-site biodigester in Santiago
Chilean real estate developer Territoria has invited Schwager Biogas to support its sustainability goals at Mercado Urbano Tobalaba (MUT), an innovative mixed-use destination and Chile’s first urban market.

Located in one of Santiago’s main financial districts and directly connected to Santiago's Metro network, MUT combines offices, retail, restaurants, and green areas, with a strong focus on sustainability, culture, and community.

In response to this challenge, Schwager Biogas has begun operating an on-site biodigester within the city.

The facility is designed to process 3 tons of urban organic waste per day, reducing the need to transport waste to landfills.

At the same time, it will generate renewable electricity and provide hot water for dishwashing in the market’s restaurants. In addition, the system will recover water and nutrients that can be used to support MUT’s green spaces.

By converting organic waste into energy and nutrient-rich outputs, the project contributes to Chile’s sustainable development and helps strengthen circular economy practices in urban environments.
