Verdus Energy introduces biomass technology for carbon-negative farming

A New Zealand-based company has introduced its Biomass Conversion Technology (BCT).
Verdus Energy & Associates aims to help dairy and livestock farms achieve carbon-negative operations while producing a wide range of high-value green products.
Using circular economy principles and energy-neutral processes, the company converts animal manure and agricultural residues into valuable commodities with minimal environmental impact.
The modular BCT system, developed over 15 years and now in its fifth generation, is designed for rapid deployment.
Each module, delivered in ten shipping containers, can be assembled in under a month and processes 36 tonnes of dry biomass per day with negligible emissions and no residual waste.
Verdus said it achieves efficiency on a smaller, decentralised scale, making it suitable for farms, forests, and industrial sites.
The technology can process feedstocks such as cattle manure, poultry litter, crop residues, and even municipal solid waste, transforming them into more than 200 marketable products.
These include renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biochar, green fertilisers, organic pesticides and herbicides, bio-oils, electricity, and carbon credits.
Biochar alone sequesters three tonnes of CO₂ per tonne applied to soil, and when fed to cattle, it can reduce methane emissions by up to 22%.
Overall, Verdus claims its solutions can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 187%.
The company has formed partnerships with governments, primary producers, energy companies, and waste managers.
With over 20 million tonnes of annual feedstock surplus in New Zealand alone and growing global demand for its products, Verdus plans rapid international expansion.
Kevin Smith, President and Chief Operating Officer, said the technology has already been proven commercially.
“Version 4.0 has been operating for over two years, producing carbon fuel pellets for a major mining company. Rollout of V5.0 begins in Q4 2025, with production scheduled to start in North America in 2026.”
Smith added: “Verdus Energy is not just addressing waste - it is creating a new model for resource recovery, climate resilience, and economic regeneration.”
