TLT advises on financing for nine new biomethane plants in Italy

The project is part of Italy’s broader energy transition under the PNIEC and PNRR frameworks, supporting the country’s target of producing 5.7 billion cubic metres of biomethane annually by 2030.
The plants will convert agricultural waste and residues into renewable gas, supporting local farmers and SMEs while advancing Italy’s circular economy and energy independence.
BTS Group, a global leader in anaerobic digestion technology, has delivered more than 270 plants worldwide, while Eiffel Gaz Vert is a key private investor in Italy’s biomethane sector.
TLT managed all aspects of the project financing, including negotiation of English-law finance documents, working alongside Studio Legale Volpe, the Italian counsel for Green One.
The team was led by Victoria Quek, partner in TLT’s Project Finance team, with support from senior associate Winnie Ma.
Victoria Quek said the transaction highlights the growing momentum behind biomethane and renewable energy projects in Europe, while BTS CEO Franco Lusuriello described it as a key step in Italy’s decarbonisation and energy transition efforts.
