Russian forces have launched a drone strike against Ukraine’s first large-scale biomass-powered thermal power plant, a key symbol of the country’s drive towards energy independence.
According to Andriy Grinenko, Founder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Clear Energy Group, the facility was hit overnight by three drones, causing visible damage but no reported casualties.
Grinenko said the plant, constructed in 2016, had become a milestone project for Ukraine’s renewable energy sector.
“It became a benchmark for the industry - the first major biomass plant to show Ukraine that energy independence begins with local resources,” he wrote.
He described the site as a project “built with faith in a strong, self-sufficient country,” and praised the team who had helped establish it.
Photographs shared online show significant structural damage to parts of the plant, though emergency services have not reported any injuries.
VORN Bioenergy has entered a strategic co-development partnership with Prado Energia to fast-track biomethane projects in Portugal, following successful expansion in Spain.
