Moeve and Pretium Renovables strike deal for up to six biomethane plants

Andalusia has been identified as the priority region for the rollout of the projects, which form part of Moeve's ambitious biomethane roadmap and its broader Positive Motion transformation strategy.
The energy company expects to manage 4TWh of biomethane in Spain by 2030.
Each plant is projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 14,600 tonnes per year - equivalent to the emissions generated by more than 11,400 households using conventional natural gas.
The initiative will contribute to the circular economy whilst supporting economic development in rural areas.
Adrien Souchet, Director of Biomethane at Moeve, said: "This agreement with Pretium Renovables strengthens our ecosystem of strategic partnerships and enables us to continue advancing the development of biomethane as part of our Positive Motion strategy.
"Working with specialised partners will allow us to accelerate the rollout of this renewable gas and will also facilitate the implementation of decarbonisation projects in high potential regions, such as Andalusia, contributing to the economic and social development of rural areas."
Laureano Parrilla, director of Pretium Renovables, added: "The agreement with Moeve marks a major milestone for Pretium Renovables and solidifies our position as a leading company in the development of biomethane projects in Spain.
"Our mission is to develop integrated projects in the territories that provide the most value, contributing to decarbonisation, the circular economy, and the economic and social development of rural areas."
The partnership aligns with Moeve's roadmap to develop an ecosystem based on second-generation biofuels.
The company has already established agreements with ID Energy Group, Kira Ventures, PreZero, and InproEner as part of its expanding network of partners.
Moeve plans to use biomethane as a substitute for conventional natural gas to reduce CO₂ emissions from its energy parks and chemical plants, as well as for customers and industrial partners.
The renewable gas will also serve as a complementary component for green hydrogen production and sustainable mobility initiatives.
These actions support Moeve's decarbonisation strategy, which aims to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 55 per cent by 2030 compared to 2019 levels.
The facilities will transform agricultural and livestock waste into renewable gas, contributing to the recovery of industrial by-products whilst offering a sustainable alternative to waste treatment.
The plants will also produce by-products such as organic fertilisers, supporting energy independence and boosting sectors essential to the Spanish economy.
