Fortis Energy expands portfolio with Türkiye biogas plant

Operational since 2021, the Çobanlar facility is a key contributor to the region’s renewable energy landscape.
The plant processes approximately 100,000 tonnes of agricultural and animal solid and liquid waste each year using anaerobic digestion, producing over 26 GWh of electricity annually.
This not only supplies a reliable source of renewable energy but also provides an effective and sustainable waste management solution.
The biogas facility also generates organic fertiliser as a by-product, which is distributed for agricultural use. This contributes to healthier soils and helps reduce dependence on synthetic fertilisers, reinforcing Fortis’s commitment to sustainable development and the circular economy.
With the addition of Çobanlar, Fortis Energy now operates five biogas power plants - four in Türkiye and one in Serbia - bringing its total installed biogas capacity to over 21 MWe.
Collectively, these plants generate more than 190 GWh of renewable energy each year, playing a vital role in lowering greenhouse gas emissions and accelerating the transition to a greener future.
