EnviTec to build its first biogas plant in the Philippines

The 1.4 MW facility, located in Candelaria, Quezon Province, will supply electricity to the grid operated by Meralco, the country’s largest power utility, starting in June 2026.
The project marks a milestone for EnviTec’s expansion into Southeast Asia.
“This is an important breakthrough for us in the Philippines,” said Thomas Wagner, head of EnviTec’s Southeast Asia office in Jakarta. “Our first reference plant here will demonstrate our expertise in processing poultry manure, and we are already seeing interest in further projects.”
Work on the plant first began in 2018 but was paused following changes in the investment structure. The new agreement with a restructured investor group enables construction to resume.
The site already includes two fermenters, each with a capacity of 5,250 cubic metres, along with a biogas engine, transformer, clamp silo, digestate lagoon and intake hall for poultry manure.
Installation of the remaining components - including the fermenter internals, pumps, digestate treatment and control system - is scheduled to begin in early 2026.
The plant will use poultry manure from 4.5 million broilers and rice-straw silage to produce both electricity and organic fertiliser.
According to FQBC corporate secretary Albert Alquiros, the project offers a sustainable solution for waste management while generating renewable power for local communities.
FQBC president Sammy De Jesus said discussions are already under way about possible expansion.
“The plant will help us manage poultry waste responsibly while contributing to clean energy supply,” he said. “We also see potential to increase capacity and replicate the model in other regions.”
