EGC Group expands biomass footprint with BayWa EDL acquisition

As a leading energy service provider and decarbonisation partner for the real estate sector, EGC’s takeover of BayWa EDL enhances its operations in Bavaria while broadening its portfolio of sustainable energy solutions, particularly in the biomass sector.
BayWa EDL, founded in 2009 as a subsidiary of BayWa AG, specialises in biomass heating systems and local heating networks.
The company manages heat generation facilities at 52 sites, predominantly fuelled by biomass, producing around 51,200 MWh of heat each year.
This transaction complements EGC’s strategic expansion and adds to its ongoing buy-and-build approach.
Earlier this year, EGC formed a strategic partnership with global investment firm KKR, aimed at accelerating decarbonisation in the real estate sector through the optimisation of sustainable energy supply.
Previously, EGC has acquired Green Way Energy GmbH and a portfolio of energy generation assets from BEW Solutions GmbH, covering 140 locations across Germany.
The addition of BayWa EDL represents a significant milestone in the Group’s commitment to advancing the energy transition and expanding its biomass capabilities.
