CycleØ secures gas shipper licence in Spain

CycleØ, a European developer and operator of biogas facilities, has been granted a gas shipper licence in Spain by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

The approval enables the company to trade and directly supply gas within the Spanish market, bolstering its growing presence in the country’s renewable energy sector.

The licence, issued under the name CycleØ Comercializadora S.L, a subsidiary of CycleØ Group Limited, is a wholesale permit.

It comes as the company accelerates its investment in Spanish biogas infrastructure, with three operational biomethane plants already online and the first private gas grid injection point connected to the national network.

CycleØ currently operates plants in Lleida and Vilanant, and with the new licence, it can now ship biomethane produced at these sites.

The company also has 18 additional facilities under construction or in advanced stages of permitting. Once completed, these plants will further contribute to decarbonising Spain’s gas grid.

This milestone follows CycleØ’s earlier announcement of plans to develop up to 30 biogas plants across Spain, representing an investment of €200 million.

The facilities are expected to generate approximately 800 GWh of biomethane annually—enough to meet the gas needs of around 123,000 households.

Jordi Berengué, Managing Director of CycleØ’s Spanish operations, welcomed the development, stating: “This licence strengthens our ability to support the growth of renewable natural gas in Spain and reinforces our long-term strategy in the region.”
