Drax adds interactive map to biomass supply chain tracker

UK power generator Drax has added an interactive map feature to its online Biomass Tracker tool, allowing users to visualise the journey of woody biomass pellets from forest sourcing through to delivery at its North Yorkshire power station.

The map view, launched on 30 September, presents Drax's supply chain geographically, showing how its pellet production, forestry sourcing and transportation logistics connect across its global operations. The company said the update makes it easier to understand the links between different parts of its supply chain.

Drax said the expanded tracker now includes more detailed information on fibre sourcing, including data on where the biomass burned at Drax Power Station originates and additional detail on the North American forests from which it sources. The tool also provides visibility of transportation across the supply chain, including the number of journeys made by road, rail and sea and the associated carbon emissions from each mode.

The dataset has been updated to include first quarter 2026 figures following the completion of internal reporting and assurance processes. Second quarter data will follow after the next reporting cycle.

Drax first launched the Biomass Tracker earlier this year as part of its sustainability reporting. The company said at the time that it would continue to develop the tool.
