Wärtsilä to deliver biogas upgrading facility to Bigadan

The new plant will significantly enhance the efficiency and use of biogas as a renewable energy source, with the capacity to process 6,000 Nm³ of raw biogas per hour, according to the company. The contract was confirmed in the third quarter of 2025.
The project marks a key step in expanding Denmark’s biogas production and usage, supporting the country’s broader shift towards sustainable energy. The plant will be installed at Bigadan’s biogas facility in Horsens, Denmark.
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions’ upgrading technology relies on an amine scrubber system, enabling efficient conversion of biogas to meet national gas grid standards.
“We are dedicated to supporting the green transition, and Wärtsilä’s upgrading solution will help drive this forward. It demonstrates the progress in renewable energy technologies, and highlights the potential of biogas as a sustainable energy source that can reduce carbon emissions,” said Casper Krog Hansen, Project Manager at Bigadan, and Christian A. Tidmarsh, Business Development Manager at Bigadan.
The PuregasCA facility is scheduled to begin full operations in the third quarter of 2026, delivering upgraded gas directly to Denmark’s national grid. Wärtsilä’s responsibilities include the installation and commissioning of the plant.
“The integration of biogas and biomass alongside wind and solar energy is vital for a comprehensive renewable energy strategy. Our collaboration with Bigadan contributes significantly to this approach,” said Goran Gajski, Sales Manager for Biogas at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions. “The technology we provide reflects our extensive in-house expertise and proven track record, which were key factors in securing this project.”
