WALLENIUS SOL takes key step With liquefied biogas
WALLENIUS SOL has begun using Liquefied Biogas (LBG) in its BALTIC ENABLER and BOTNIA ENABLER multi-fuel vessels following a new agreement with energy company Gasum.
The arrangement allows LBG to be supplied through Gasum’s pooling system, promoting the use of renewable fuels at scale within shipping.
LBG, produced from organic waste, is chemically identical to LNG and can be used directly in existing dual-fuel engines.
The change enables WALLENIUS SOL’s customers to lower Scope 3 emissions. The LBG is RED II certified and ISCC traceable, with the first bunkerings completed in early October.
Rebecca Tagaeus, Sustainability Officer at WALLENIUS SOL, said the move demonstrates that the company’s Climate Roadmap is delivering concrete results while supporting customers’ climate targets.
Jacob Granqvist of Gasum described the pooling system as “a brilliant and easy opportunity” for maritime actors to collaborate on reducing emissions.
USTC chief executive and co-owner Nina Østergaard Borris said the acquisition reinforces the group’s long-term strategy of diversifying into sustainable energy markets
